Inspiring First Ice Fishing Memories
Minocqua Lake - Oneida, WI
Yesterday I had the chance for the third year in a row to take a group of students from Rhinelander High School to go ice fishing. Many firsts on the day included: -First time on a frozen lake -First time starting a gas engine -First time fishing -First fish catch It is so rewarding to be able to share my passion with kids who may not otherwise get the opportunity to do so. Big thanks to Bradley Gumtow and the Ashland Ice Fishing team for allowing us to use some extra shacks and heaters to keep everyone comfortable. The walking conditions have greatly improved after the most recent warm up and rain followed by the quick cold snap. We found anywhere from 5-8” of ice over a shallow bay. Tip-ups with suckers did most of the damage as we were working with cold, blustery conditions... however the wind let up just enough to allow us to grill brats for lunch! Happy Holidays to all!
