Unforgettable Father-Son Trip to Canada
Minocqua Lake - Oneida, WI
Recently, my Dad (Charlie Buhler) and I got back from a fantastic trip north of the border. We managed 17 fish in 5.5 days of fishing with all 17 being over 40, four 46s, 48, 49, and a 50.5 on topwater! Trips like these are special to share with the person who got me into fishing. Some things to note from the trip: -13 fish on bucktails, 11 in the figure 8. St. Croix Rods Blademaster II was absolutely crucial in executing wide figure 8s to coax these fish into biting. Once pinned this rod is the BEST at keeping them that way all the way into the net. -2 fish on crankbaits. When blades were not producing, a minnow-style crankbait that made contact with structure was crucial in getting those lethargic fish to show themselves and bite as well. -2 fish on topwater (many more lost). Unlike topwater in Wisconsin for me this season, both of my Canadian trips yielded action on topwater consistently. Lower light periods being best. -Stealth Tackle leaders are the gold standard. With all of the abuse that shield lakes put on leaders, I have NEVER had a failure. -Team Rhino Outdoors custom colors of various blades in the 7, 8, and 9 sizes were the ticket to our bucktail bites. Lastly, Sandy’s Blackhawk Island Muskie Camp is the premier spot for musky fisherman to stay when traveling to LOTW. Bill’s camp is beautiful, cabins are clean, docks are safe and protected, and the fishing is phenomenal! I have been traveling to this resort since the age of 9 and will continue to do so as long as I am able. I am already looking forward to July 2026! 🇨🇦 I have just a couple days left available for this season in Northern Wisconsin. October 12th, 19th, November 8th and 9th (weather permitting). 262-902-1618
